The end may be finally in sight of a protracted labour dispute at OC Transpo.
City council, after going behind closed doors Wednesday to discuss a new proposed agreement with the transit union, voted unanimously in favour of it.
Transit committee chair Alex Cullen could not reveal any details of the contract offer until after union members have had a chance to vote on it, but described it as the product of give and take between the city and the union.
“It is a package deal and I think on balance, it’s a good deal for both sides,” Cullen added.
Scheduling of driver shifts has been the major obstacle to an agreement between OC Transpo and its drivers, which has remained elusive after a 53-day strike in the winter of ’08-‘09 threatened back-to-work legislation and the appointment of an arbitrator.
Union members will vote on the deal Thursday and Friday.
