A New York woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for running a prostitution ring in Massachusetts.
Prosecutors say 37-year-old Hong Wei, known as Ms. Chen, and three men from Quincy lured women to the Bay State through newspaper ads.
“The women generally arrived at South Street Bus Station in Boston from New York and elsewhere around the country and were thereafter transported by the defendants to various apartments throughout Massachusetts, where they then engaged in prostitution,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston said in a statement.
“Some of the women were not legally in the United States when they were harbored in the brothels. Some of the women were forced to work in the brothels.”
Wei pleaded guilty in December 2012 to charges including forced labor and harboring aliens.
Three of her co-defendants have also pleaded guilty. A fourth is awaiting trial.
Wei was also ordered to serve five years’ probation after she is released from prison.
