Public helps police nab murderer on the run

Ackerman

Tips from the public have helped Calgary cops track down a convicted killer who walked away from a halfway house on the weekend.

Troy David Ackerman was taken back into custody Saturday morning, after the 35-year-old was arrested at a residence near Centre St. and 38 Ave. around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Police had issued a Canada-wide warrant for Ackerman on Friday for parole violations after he fled a Calgary halfway house.

The 35-year-old is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.

Ackerman was arrested without incident, said Insp. Keith Pollock.
