Public invited to Friday swearing-in of Dexter cabinet

Darrell Dexter will be losing the designate tag from premier Friday night.

Dexter and his cabinet will be sworn in by Lt.-Gov. Mayann Francis during a ceremony at the Cunard Centre in Halifax starting at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to stop by and watch as Dexter officially becomes the province’s 27th premier.

“It’s an historic event and we wanted to share it with all Nova Scotians,” Dexter said in a release. “It’s an exciting time and we’re looking forward to tackling the challenges at hand.”

Dexter will be naming a 12-member cabinet, making good on his election campaign process to reduce the number of ministers from 18.

Dexter and the NDP made history in last Tuesday’s provincial election when they won 31 of 52 seats to form a majority government. It is the first NDP government ever elected east of Ontario.
