Mikhail Grigorenko is doing everything he can to hold on to the rookie scoring lead.
Grigorenko scored once and set up two more as the Quebec Remparts crushed the visiting Gatineau Olympiques 12-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
The 17-year-old Russian import has picked up a point in 12 straight games and has 28 goals and 64 points total in just 40 contests.
Grigorenko currently has a seven-point lead over Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads for top spot in rookie scoring.
Gabriel Desjardins had three goals and an assist for the Remparts (32-11-6), who won their third straight game, Anthony Duclair scored twice, Adam Erne had a goal and two assists, Ryan Culkin, Michael McNamee and Mikael Tam each had a goal and an assist as Jeremie Malouin and Mathieu Lavallee added single goals.
Frederick Roy chipped in with three assists while Logan Shaw and Alexandre Comtois had two apiece.
Adam Chapman scored the lone goal for the Olympiques (19-22-8), who have now lost three in a row.
Francois Brassard made 27 saves for the win while Francois Lacerte allowed 10 goals on 26 shots.
Alexandre Michaud also got some minutes in goal for the Olympiques and allowed two goals on six shots.
Quebec went 3 for 3 on the power play as Gatineau failed to score on four opportunities with the man advantage.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Cape Breton 5, Acadie-Bathurst 4; Moncton 2, Baie-Comeau 1; Blainville-Boisbriand 4, P.E.I. 2 and Chicoutimi 4, Rouyn-Noranda 2.
At Quebec City, the Remparts put the game away quickly, scoring six times in the opening period.
Duclair opened the scoring 1:02 into the game.
Then Quebec scored five times within eight minutes.
Desjardins scored on the power play at 9:56, Duclair scored his second at 11:06, Grigorenko and Culkin scored power-play goals at 13:03 and 16:42 and finally Desjardins added his second at 18:58.
The second period was similar to the first as the Remparts scored four more goals for a 10-goal advantage after 40 minutes of play.
Desjardins completed the hat trick 58 seconds into the period with a short-handed goal, Malouin scored at 10:20, McNamee at 12:13 and one more short handed came from Lavallee at 15:34.
Erne scored at 5:30 of the third and Tam made it 12-0 at 9:15 before Chapman finally put the Olympiques on the board at 16:15.
