QMJHL’s PEI Rocket hire Eric Lavigne as new head coach, replacing Chouinard

CHARLOTTETOWN – The QMJHL’S P.E.I. Rocket named Eric Lavigne their new head coach Wednesday.

Lavigne, who spent the past four seasons as head coach and general manager of the Val-d’Or Foreurs, takes over for Guy Chouinard, who was let go as head coach and director of hockey operations Tuesday.

“Eric is a well respected coach who has substantial experience in coaching at the Major Junior Level,” Rocket president and governor Serge Savard said in a statement. “We are very much looking forward to having him join our organization and lead us into the future.”

The Rocket (5-3-2) sit third in the Atlantic Division, one point back of co-leaders Moncton and Saint John. They return to action Saturday against the visiting Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
