The quality of competition on the Canada Games Oval will be the best in the country, said Catriona Le May Doan.
“About three-quarters of the Vancouver Olympians and medalists were Canada Games alumni,” she said. “You are going to witness some of the future Olympians.”
The fact it’s an outdoor venue won’t phase the competitors since more than half of competitions (including international) are held outdoors, Le May Doan added.
“Sometimes there’s wind and snow and sleet, but everybody’s used to that. I’m sure there won’t be any world records broken and that’s not the goal of these games,” she said.
“To be on that huge 400-metre track in the open air, there’s nothing like it, regardless of your skating ability.”
