Queens man arrested over incredibly loud van

Over the weekend, a Queens man was arrested for playing loud music from his van, which was allegedly outfitted with approximately 80 individual speakers.

Authorities arrested Nelson Hidalgo after they received several noise complaints shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday in the Willets Point area, NBC4 reported.He was charged with criminal nuisance, unreasonable noise, unlawful assembly and other offenses.

When police arrived at the corner of 35thAvenue and 127thStreet, a crowd of approximately 40 people was gathered around the van as music blared, QNS.com reported. Hidalgo, who was in the passenger seat of the parked vehicle adjusting the sound settings when police arrived, told authorities he spent thousands on the stereo system.

“The vehicle is mine. I spent over $20,000 on this equipment,” Hidalgo was quoted by QNS.com. “I know it’s illegal, but it’s the weekend.How come I don’t get a ticket this time? I usually get a ticket or it gets thrown out or I pay a little fee.”

Police confiscated the van when they arrested Hidalgo, NBC4 added.

Hidalgo was expected to return to court in connection to his arrest on Aug. 1, QNS.com added.
