Ramadan chaos at Rye Playland

Fifteen people were arrested yesterday at Rye Playland following a scrape with law enforcement over a head-scarf ban.

Witnesses told the New York Daily News that when the women learned they could not ride while covering their heads, they requested a refund.

That’s when some witnesses say police began pushing women to the ground and the brawl broke out.

Conflicting reports claim that the group began fighting amongst themselves, but the police intervened.

The Muslim American Society of New York invited 3,000 members to the theme park, but neglected to inform them that they must remove their hijabs before getting on the rides, Westchester County officials told the New York Post.

The event was organized to celebrate the end of Ramadan, the festival Eid-ul-Fitr.

The park was shut down as nearly 100 officers arrived on the scene and charged a dozen people with disorderly conduct and assault in the chaos.
