Police are looking for answers after a weekend rash of car break-ins near Peabody fitness clubs left 12 cars with smashed windows and valuables missing.

On Saturday, 11 cars were broken into around 11 a.m. as they were parked near the Workout World and Latitude Sports Club on Newbury Street in Peabody, police said to WCVB.

Another similar break-in took place the day before in a car parked near the Peabody YMCA on Lynnfield Street, WHDH added.

Suspects entered the vehicles by breaking out windows, WCVB stated.

The investigation is ongoing, WHDH reported, saying that area police recommend residents secure their belongings in the trunks of their cars.
