Artists always seem to have very noble reasons for wanting to make an album. And while we know Sune Rose Wagner, one half of the indie-electro-noir band The Raveonettes, probably did too, he also just wanted to hang out with his buddy.
“Sharin [Foo] and I have been friends for 12 years. We don’t live in the same city anymore, so we don’t see each other except for when we’re doing [band] business,” Wagner explains. “By doing stuff like this, which is what we prefer, which is to write music and to record and be creative together, you reconnect again.”
And while they love catching up and rocking out, Wagner also just kind of misses doing, you know, normal things.
“We talk every day, but it’s business,” he explains. “Musicians who think that they’re just going to have a good time and be on the road, they’re mistaken. It’s 80 percent business and 20 percent fun. We go out on the road, but, you know, it would be nice to go to the movies or go out to a nice dinner.”

The Old 97s
Sure, we could talk about how interesting it is that the music the Old 97s have been playing for almost 20 years is just about to be back in vogue with the same force as when Uncle Tupelo ushered in the whole “No Depression” scene. But what we’d rather comment on is how impossibly youthful and good-looking frontman Rhett Miller still is. Seriously, the guy is 40, he’s been in a touring rock band for 20 years and he still looks like he could be on the cover of any teen magazine. Maybe he will be when the roots-rock resurgence takes complete hold in two years or so.
