The battle began at the City Centre Mall Thursday as the official weigh-in for MFC 26: Retribution took place over the noon hour.
“I’m in it to win it, so I’m going to put it on for my city like I always do,” said local product Ryan (The Real Deal) Ford, who will be taking on Douglas (The Phenom) Lima in the co-main event. “I’m going to come out like the real deal, no surprises. I came to fight.”
Despite being moved from Brandon, Man., to the River Cree Resort and Casino outside of Edmonton, Friday’s lineup has remained intact.
The other Retribution main event will feature a scrap between MFC lightweight champion Antonio McKee and challenger Luciano Azevedo.
Middleweights Tom (Kong) Watson and Jesse (JT Money) Taylor will also duke it out on the card.
“These guys are all going to bring it,” said MFC owner Mark Pavelich. “Most guys that are getting cut from UFC don’t even want to come sign for us anymore because they know that these sharks are vicious and they’re going to bite.”
