Ottawa residents who recently purchased vent-free, compact gas fireplaces are being advised to contact their retailer after prohibited heating devices were found sold in the area.
The Technical Standards and Safety Authority has issued a provincial offence order to immediately discontinue the sale of these heating devices manufactured by ProCom.
Vent-free gas fireplaces do not use a chimney or ventilation ducts in the walls to the outside air. If improperly installed, these types of fireplaces pose a danger for a fire or explosion.
