Reebok’s headquarterswill soon be stepping into Boston.
The athletic company announced this week that its headquarterswill leave its current Canton location to set up shop in the city’s Seaport District.
The new headquarters will take over more than 220,000 square feet of space on five floors within The Innovation and Design Building at 25 DrydockAve. The current Canton space spans 460,000 square feet on 60 acres.
About 700 employees will be working at there, where they’ll be able to be as athletic as the brand thanks toa two-story 30,000-square-foot gym within the building. The gym features a CrossFit box, boxing ring, multiple studios and more.
Reebok also wants to help the public get fit thanks to a planned one-mile running track around the facility that will be open to the public.
“Reebok’s decision to move their headquarters to the Seaport is another example of how Boston is attracting innovative, global companies that are invested in making our city a better place,” Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement. “I welcome Reebok to Boston, and look forward to engaging with them about how we can ensure all Bostonians lead healthy, active lifestyles.”
Also open to passersby within the company’s expansive new home base: a farm-to-table cafe and an 8,000-square-foot Reebok FitHub retail store.
“Our vision is to bring ‘The Home of Fitness,’ which we’ve created at our Canton HQ, to this new location,”Reebok President Matt O’Toole said in a statement. “We have a goal of being the fittest, healthiest workplace in the country, and this new location will go a long way in helping us achieve this goal. It will be a workplace unlike any other in the city, with amenities that will not only benefit our employees, but the local community as well.”
The new headquarters is sure to be an idyllic workplace for Reebok’s employees, but O’Toole highlighted that the company’s move to Boston is meant to benefit everyone in the city.
By being right in the Seaport — and, specifically, the Innovation and Design Building — the company can more easily collaborate with the “makers, designers, architects, innovators and entrepreneurs” who already populate that area, the company said.
Reebok will launch a “Makers Lab,” which will allow the public to see how the company makes its footwear and apparel, and look at the product testing and prototyping labs.
The company plans to be in its new headquarters by next fall.
