Rents near NBA arenas could cost 24 percent more than rest of city: Study

Want to live close to the court action of your favorite NBA team? You’d better be prepared to pay higher rents then, according to a new study from RENTCafé.

The study found that rents could be 24 percent higher within two miles of NBA arenas.

While Philadelphia 76ers fans can nab a rental for basically the same price as the city average, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets devotees can expect an increase of 5 percent and 7 percent to live near Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center, respectively. Boston Celtics lovers should anticipate a 9 percent riseto be a neighbor of TD Garden.

The most expensive NBA arena to live near isthe Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets. Rents are 80 percent higher than the city’s average of $1,032. The Indiana Pacers’ Bankers Life Fieldhouse came in second with a 67 percent jump, while the Oklahoma City Thunder’s home of Chesapeake Energy Arena takes third with a 64 percent increase.

For Golden State Warriors fans, though, there is actually a 26 percent drop in rents near the Oracle Arena. Neighborhood averages there are $1,841 while the average price in Oakland is $2,496.
