In a relatively unschocking turn of events, Congressman Aaron Schock has announced his resignation effective March 31st.
Schock, who represents Illinois’ 18th congressional district, released the following statement:
“Today, I am announcing my resignation as a Member of the United States House of Representatives effective March 31. I do this with a heavy heart. Serving the people of the 18th District is the highest and greatest honor I have had in my life. I thank them for their faith in electing me and letting me represent their interests in Washington. I have given them my all over the last six years. I have traveled to all corners of the District to meet with the people I’ve been fortunate to be able to call my friends and neighbors. But the constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself. I have always sought to do what’s best for my constituents and I thank them for the opportunity to serve,”
Schock has been swimming in controversy over the last few months with allegations that he used misused taxpayer dollars and campaign donations to fund things like decorating his office to look like the set of popular PBS show “Downton Abbey.”
Twitter has been very pleased with the news:
First Matthew Crawley. Now Aaron Schock. Downton is a dangerous place.

Playing Aaron Schock in a future film about hubris and collapse will be how Neil Patrick Harris wins his Oscar.

To be clear, I joke about Aaron Schock not just because he’s gay. I joke because he’s a hateful closet case who worked against gay rights.

Does this mean Aaron Schock’s Instagram will be fun again?

If a “Dancing With the Stars” producer isn’t trying to reach Aaron Schock right now he’s not doing his job.
