Police shootings of suspects are down in New York City, and no cop lives were lost in shootings with aggressors.
A new report released by the NYPD on Wednesday said shootings of adversarial suspects dropped 11 percent in 2013 — the last year of the Bloomberg administration and former top cop Ray Kelly’s tenure as commissioner.a
Down to 40 last year from 45 in 2012, the number of suspects shot by police is at its lowest since 2010 when there were 33 shootings.
Seventeen of last year’s 40 suspects were shot and inured; eight were killed by police — down 50 percent from 2012.
Most of the cops involved in the shootings were on duty either working their beats on foot or in cars in response to 911 calls. The report also said internal investigations of nine police shootings from last year cleared all officers.
Forty six internal investigations remain.
In terms of location, 19 — or almost half — of the shootings last year were in Brooklyn. Similarly, 44 percent of the all criminal shootings were also in the borough.
In all, there were 1,103 criminal shootings incidents and 5,078 gun arrests in total.
