Revolving door swings right way for Red Sox

Josh Reddick was back in right field Wednesday night, as the Red Sox looked to maintain their hold on the lead in the American League East.

With J.D. Drew injured, Reddick has given the Sox a huge boost — even more remarkable considering Reddick wasn’t the one expected to fulfill such a role. It was Ryan Kalish who shined last season and was considered the heir-apparent in right. Instead, Kalish endured a lost season that ended Thursday with surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck.

Kalish, 23, played just 22 games for Triple-A Pawtucket this season.

“He’ll be fine. What everybody cares about is the kid lost a year, and a really big year of development,” said manager Terry Francona. “He’s a tough enough kid, and he’ll do whatever it takes.”
