In a moment of unbridled enthusiasm, Jets head coach Rex Ryan hopped on the media’s conference call this week. Ryan directed a question toward Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who was fielding questions from the media about this weekend’s matchup.

Watkins, a first-round pick this year, was on speaker during a media conference call when Ryan, en route to his daily press conference, stopped by the media work room and listened to Watkins speaking about the Jets’ defense. After a few moments, Ryan sauntered into the room, grinning as wide as a Cheshire cat, to ask Watkins a question.
Ryan, whose son Seth is a redshirt freshman wide receiver at Clemson and was a teammate of Watkins last season, didn’t introduce himself. He just launched into a question once Watkins was done.
” Sammy, I’ve got a question: How did you help Seth Ryan out? How did he do out there?” Ryan said. ” And if you could really help him, you wouldn’t play this game.”
The Jets will be looking to stop Watkins, who leads the Bills in receptions (35), receiving yards (433) and touchdowns (four). Ryan paused for a moment after his initial salvo.
” This sounds like Rex Ryan — I know it does — but this is a reporter,” Ryan said. How you doing Sammy, you all right?”
Watkins answered with a “How you doing?” back to Ryan, presumably confused by what was happening.
It was the last question of the conference call.
