Rex Ryan: What meeting?

After the Week 4 loss in Baltimore, wide receiver Santonio Holmes called out his quarterback in a post-game locker room rant that went public two days later. While Holmes later amended his comments to say that they were the entire offense, the public damage was done.

Then on Sunday morning, a report surfaced that Holmes — along with fellow wide receivers Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason — had walked into head coach Rex Ryan’s office late last week to complain about not getting enough balls thrown their way.

“That’s ‘Ripleys’ to me. If it is, then maybe I got hit in the head or something,” Ryan said. “I don’t remember that.”

Wisely, the always-diplomatic Sanchez refused to comment on the situation or any internal bickering after an efficient Sunday against New England where he completed 16-of-26 for 166 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers. He had no concerns about the effects of the supposed strife on the team.

“No. No, not at all. Our guys are better than that,” Sanchez said. “They care about this team and our season and that kind of stuff won’t happen to us.”

Perhaps his receivers are “better than that” and won’t let any personal gripes leak into the locker room, but they certainly were subpar on the field against the Patriots. Sanchez likely should be concerned about the play of his targets in a game marred by sloppy play.
