Academy Award winning director and actor Richard Attenborough has died. He was 90. He won his greatest acclaim for directing “Gandhi,” which won Oscars for both best picture and best director, but he was perhaps best known to American audiences as the flawed but brilliant creator of Jurassic Park in the film adaptation. He also appeared in “Miracle on 34th Street” as Kriss Kringle, but his acting career stretched all the way back to the 1940s.
Other directing credits include “Shadowlands,” “A Chorus Line” and the Charlie Chaplin biopic, “Chaplin.” His acting career was widely varied, stretching from the Disney children’s classic “Doctor Dolittle” to “The Great Escape.”
He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
