Ride for free with Lyft’s Lucky Mode in Boston this St. Patrick’s Day

Lyft Boston St. Patrick's Day

Feel the luck of the Irish with Lyft this St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The rideshare company announced on Friday that it’s running a special promotion in Boston tied to the holiday. Users who select Lucky Mode in the Lyft app will receive a free ride around town in one of three bright gold-colored cars, plus the chance to take home some St. Patrick’s Day swag.

The Lucky Mode special kicks off this afternoon at 3 p.m. and will be available until 10 p.m. The promotion will also run on Saturday, March 17, between noon and 10 p.m., so riders will have plenty of time to experience it during their St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

“The whole car is decked out for St. Patrick’s Day,” says Tyler George, Lyft’s general manager for New England. “We want people to have fun with it.”

In addition to the free ride, the Lucky Mode experience includes a fun selfie station as well as a race-against-the-clock challenge. Each car will have a locked chest in its back seat, and riders will have to sift through a collection of skelton keys in order to open it before the trip is over.

Guests who can unlock the box in time will win some special swag, credits for future Lyft rides and even tickets to a Dropkick Murphys show.

“We want Lyft to be more than a ride from point A to point B,” George says. “We want to demonstrate the interesting things that we can do with a driver and passenger in a car.”

Lyft also hopes to give back to Boston during St. Patrick’s Day weekend with an initiative to support businesses in South Boston. Just in time for the parade, riders will receive 50 percent off their trip to more than 30 businesses in Southie on March 18. Lyft will donate $1 from each ride to the South Boston Neighborhood House as well.

Lyft users can participate by looking for the “Neighborhood Partner” badge in the app for participating locations. Each badge will have a coupon code, which will give riders 50 percent off their ride to that business when entered into the “Promo” tab.
