GO Transit is still looking for answers as to why thousands of commuters were left shivering on platforms during yesterday’s morning rush.
More than 50 trains were delayed and seven cancelled because of switch and signal failures before 11 a.m. GO trains carry between 1,600 and 1,950 passengers each, depending on whether they are 10 or 12 cars long.
The chaos came a day after GO spokesperson Vanessa Thomas offered assurances that GO was prepared for this week’s forecast deep freeze.
GO initially blamed many of yesterday’s problems on the Lakeshore East line on work being done by CN, which owns large sections of the GO track.
CN confirmed the cause of the delay but it was unclear if GO was not made aware or did not react in time.
