Rihanna is heading to Harvard

Rihanna will arrive in Cambridge next week to accept the Harvard Foundation’s Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award.

The Grammy-winning triple threat will be honored for her philanthropic work in her native Barbados, where she’s contributed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for breast cancer research and treatment, as well as her foundation that provides scholarships for students from Caribbean countries who wish to attend American universities.

Additionally, notes the foundation’s director, S. Allen Counter, “[Rihanna] supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.”

And, of course, let us not forget the very important time RiRi visited Barbados with Prince Harry to raise awareness for World HIV Day. (They both took a very public HIV text to help remove stigma.)

The “Work” songstress will visit the Harvard campus to accept the award on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at Saunders Theatre.
