The Riker’s Island guard accused of failing to inspect a hot cell where a former Marine died in in February has been indicted on 26 felony and misdemeanor charges, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Carol Lackner, 35, was working overnight on Feb. 14 when she failed to inspect inmates held in cells for mental observation, even though she recorded the rounds in her log book, prosecutors said.

That night, Jerome Murdough, 56, died in a cell where the temperature was over 100 degrees. The Associated Press, which first reported the story, said an official told them Murdough “basically baked to death.”

Lacker has worked as a corrections officer for eight and a half years. She faces up to four years in prison if convicted, according to prosecutors.
