Robert Pattinson finally responds to Trump’s relationship advice, and now we’re even more confused

Donald Trump and Robert Pattinson

The one thing that we all know about Donald Trump is that he was firmly Team Pattinson in the aftermath of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s very public break-up back in 2012. That, and he is currently the President of the United States.

But before he became arguably the most divisive Commander In Chief in the history of the good ol’ US of A, he made it clear that Robert Pattinson should in no-way take back Kristen Stewart after she was caught cheating on him with Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. Clearly outraged by the whole ordeal, on October 17, 2012 Donald Trump took to his favorite method of communication to back Robert Pattinson, writing on Twitter:

Having Donald Trump the businessman offer you relationship advice is something that you can get away with ignoring. But when Trump became the 45th President of the United States, it suddenly meant that his remarks to Pattinson weren’t going to disappear until both Stewart and the actor had responded. Stewart did just that during her Saturday Night Live monologue in February, and now Robert Pattinson has finally followed. His answer is more vague than revelatory, though.

“I think there’s so many different levels of it,” Pattinson told a recent interview, via Harper’s Bazaar. “Your identity exists on many different planes at the same time and they all can be quite different from each other. When he said that, it didn’t really mean anything. But I guess now I’m sort of thinking, like, ‘Well, I guess that is related to me.’ But how does that fit in with all the other things going on in my life?”

“And sometimes you think, ‘Can I use this in my acting? Or should I be putting it away?’ It’s kind of interesting, I guess. I don’t know – this could be why people get annoyed with me.”

I can’t work out whether the above quote proves that Robert Pattinson was completely unfazed by Donald Trump’s remarks, or is instead the definitive evidence that he has overthought them to such an extent that his head is on the verge of exploding. Either way, the next time you see Robert Pattinson responding to a Tweet on-screen you’ll know that he was picturing Donald Trump while it was being shot.
