“Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts, who was one of Barbara Walters’Most Fascinating People of 2013, continues to fascinate with today’s casual Facebook post thanking her girlfriend for her help in recovering from MDA, or myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow. The post was the first first time Roberts has publicly acknowledged she is a lesbian.
In the message, Roberts reflected on her past year battling the disease and recovering thanks to a bone marrow transplant from her sister. And in the middle of the thank-you note to fans, she wrote, “I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.”
According to reports, Roberts’ sexuality is an open secret in the industry; she and Amber Laign, who is reportedly a massage therapist, have been dating for 10 years and live together in New York City.
