Rocker’s stalker resurfaces after serving time in treatment

Blues rocker Matt Minglewood has filed for a peace bond against the woman who served time in a psychiatric facility after being found not criminally responsible for stalking the well-known musician five years ago.

The application alleges that between December 2008 and April 2009, Chiyo Shimizu continually harassed him by contacting friends and purchasing large numbers of tickets to his performances. It notes the 62-year-old musician fears that the actions will lead to Shimizu causing personal injury to him or his wife, Barbara Batherson, or their Glace Bay home.

In 2004, Shimizu was charged with harassing and stalking Minglewood but found not criminally responsible by reason of a mental disorder. As a result, Shimizu was sent to the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth where she underwent treatment for 18 months. The application was filed April 8 and a hearing date has been set for June 1.
