Rocketing garage door leads to drug charges

Two people are facing drug-related charges following an explosion in southwest Edmonton that blew a garage door off its hinges Sunday night.

Neighbours called fire crews to the home on Latta Crescent around 9:30 p.m., after an explosion rocketed the door into the street.

Officials said crews put out the small fire caused by the blast and determined nobody was injured before EPS locked the house down, awaiting a search warrant.

After drugs were found on the property, the owners of the home — a 31-year-old man and 20-year-old woman — were taken into custody. Specifics on the type of narcotics are being withheld, pending further investigation, EPS spokeswoman Patrycia Thenu said.

Both were charged with mischief, possession of a controlled substance, producing a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime.
