Roughriders get warm welcome

Sparkly wigs and waving flags marked classic Roughrider fans as they cheered and shouted out to their favourite team yesterday at the Edmonton International Airport.

The team arrived in the late afternoon to a loud welcome, foreshadowing this weekend’s event roster.

“I’m excited to see my team, to cheer them on as they come in, to welcome them,” said Kelsey Baker, a waiting fan.

Kelsey’s dad Byron had one thing to say to his team and that was “go, go, go Riders!” cheered Baker.

The players stopped to chat with fans and sign autographs, even videotaping their Edmonton welcoming committee.

“We’re back to where we were last year and we’re back to finish what we started,” said defensive back Tad Kornegay.

“We have a good feeling,” said Jim Hopson, president and chief executive officer of the Roughriders.

“We know these guys are thinking like we are but we’re starting to feel like a team of destiny a bit and as long as we can bring it out early and not get too far in the hole … I think we’ll be fine.”
