Samuel Eto’o is going to be very rich

Cameroonian soccer star Samuel Eto’o is already rich.

But he’s reportedly about to get a whole lot richer.

Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala has apparently agreed with Eto’o’s current club, Inter Milan, on a transfer deal that would make the striker the highest-paid soccer player in the world.

The transfer fee is reportedly $38.9 million. Eto’o’s salary for each of the three years of his contract would be an astonishing $28.8 million — almost as much as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi combined, and about 10 times the MLS salary cap for a whole team.

Messi currently gets $15.1 million per season from Barcelona. He’s 24, and the consensus No. 1 player in the world. Eto’o, meanwhile, is 30, toward the end of his prime.

New England Revolution star Shalrie Joseph will make $500,000 in 2011. The Los Angeles Galaxy’s Landon Donovan is due to pull in $2.3 million as a designated player.

Of course, Anzhi owner Suleiman Kerimov can afford the expense. He’s worth close to $8 billion.
