Girl Scouts is introducing a new breed of powdery, half-moon lemon wedge cookies called Savannah Smiles to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The new addition is in honor of Juliette Low, who founded Girl Scouts in Savannah, Georgia in 1912. The new cookie joins the Girl Scouts’ ten other delicious cookies.
Girl Scout Cookies have been enjoyed by Americans since 1917, when a Muskogee, Oklahoma troop sold homemade cookies in its high school cafeteria, according to the organization’s website. By the 1920’s, Girl Scout Cookies were sold door-to-door across the country for 25 to 35 cents per dozen.
Today, a box is sold for about $4.
