Say goodbye to your double chin with this new treatment

double chin cosmetic treatment

So maybe you have a double chin. Maybe you like everything about yourself except for it. Like, your double chin is your Achilles heel.

Or maybe you don’t have a double chin at all, but you’re paranoid and find yourself staring in front of the mirror, squeezing your face into your neck until it looks like you do.

We think you should love yourself just the way you are, but this is America and if you don’t like something and have the money to change it, do you, YOLO, etc.

Anyway. There’s a new treatment called Kybella, (tagline: Put your best chin forward) that will turn your double chin into the single chin of your dreams.

According to the Kybella website, having a double-chin — medical term “submental fullness” — is not synonymous with being overweight. It could be in your genes or just a side effect of aging, and sometimes, no matter how much you exercise or diet, the condition may not go away.” Oh no!

Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research in Mount Sinai’s dermatology department, explained to PureWow that the FDA-approved prescription medicine works to break down fat cells when it’s injected into the skin.

The number of sessions varies, with six treatments being the max. During each session, which is spaced a month apart, you receive multiple injections, which might cause swelling, bruising, or numbness. 4 out of 100 people experienced nerve injury and trouble swallowing, but the median number of patients recovered in 44 days and 3 days, respectively. Yikes.

The long list of contraindications on Kybella’s site includes patients who have had prior surgeries or cosmetic treatments on their face, neck or chin area; who currently have a chin infection; who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (and I quote “it is not known if Kybella will harm your unborn baby”); who are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.

Clinical studies show that more than half of patients get the maximum of six treaments. According to PureWow, the average cost of a session in NYC will run you upwards of $1500.

Would you spend $90,000 to live your best chin?
