Massachusetts State Police

Massachusetts State Police are asking residents to be on the lookout for scammers after someone was reported in Tewksbury for raising money for a fake charity.

A resident there told police that someone was going door-to-door seeking donations, claiming that it for was a police organization fundraising on behalf of State Trooper Thomas Clardy, who was killed last week when his police cruiser was struck by another vehicle.

Police said there are only two approved organizations collecting such funds — the Clardy Children’s Fund and The Greg Hill Foundation.

Neither organization would solicit donations over the phone or door-to-door, police stressed.
