Schedule for Sept. 11 memorial service

From Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office, here is the schedule for tomorrow’s tenth annual memorial service of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony will officially begin at 8:35 AM. This year the ceremony will pause at six moments – twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell and to mark the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and on Flight 93. The first moment of silence will be at 8:46 a.m., and houses of worship have been asked to toll their bells at that time. The ceremony will conclude at approximately 1:00 p.m.

8:28 a.m. Bagpipers and drummers begin processional

8:35 a.m. Program begins : Bagpipers and drummers lead WTC flag through memorial to the stage; Brooklyn Youth Chorus performs the National Anthem; Mayor Bloomberg introduces citywide moment of silence

8:46 a.m. Moment of silence: Observance of time American Airlines Flight 11 struck North Tower — Houses of worship will toll their bells throughout the City

Family members will begin reading the names in pairs: There will be 167 pairs (334 readers) who will continue until all names are read and music will provide a backdrop throughout the program
