School district warns of possible kidnapping

The Richmond School District yesterday distributed a cautionary letter and a tip sheet to parents after police issued a warning about a possible kidnapping in that city.

The notice, written in English and Chinese, repeated an announcement issued by RCMP on Tuesday stating police had received a threat that an Asian child may be kidnapped in the next few weeks.

No other information was available.

The letter of tips urged parents to be extra vigilant and advised they walk their children to school, the park or elsewhere.

“Talk about possible dangers (like) parks, unlit and wooded areas, vacant lots, and cars,” it said.

“Children should yell, scream and do whatever they can do to get the attention of passersby if approached by a stranger.”
