A Brooklyn elementary school has removed all references to Christmas, Santa Claus and the Pledge of Allegiance as a new principal prioritizes political correctness.
PS 169 in Sunset Park has a new principal, Eujin Jaela Kim, who has recently dismayed teachers and parents by making changes to what is and is not allowed at the school, the New York Post reported, adding that she has also dumped newly purchased reading books because she preferred another curriculum. We can’t even have a star because it can represent a religious system, like the Star of David.” Besides Santa Claus being banned, there is no longer a school-wide daily Pledge of Allegiance, and “Harvest festival” and “winter celebrations” now describe Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, Fox added in a related article. In a staff memo quoted by the Post, PS 169 business manager Johanna Bjorken stated: “In case you are wondering about grey areas: Santa Claus is considered an ‘other religious figure.’”

She also painted over or removed several historic murals, in part to mount large flat-screen TVs. Kim did not respond to requests for comment, according to the Post.
