Former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown said he is being considered to lead the federal Department of Veterans Affairs after meeting with the president-elect Monday at Trump Tower.

Brown, a Republican, supported President-elect Donald Trump during the campaign, and had served for many years in the Army National Guard. If selected to head the department, his priorities would include addressing veteran suicides and outsourcingsome VA services to private providers, hetold Boston.com.

Brown, now a New Hampshire resident, served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and in the state Senate from 1998 to 2010, when he succeeded Sen. Ted Kennedy in a special election following Kennedy’s death.

When he ran for a full six-year term in 2012, he lost to Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat.

Brown has more than30 years experience in the National Guard, and he spent his two-week 2010 summer duty in Afghanistan during the August congressional recess, the Boston Globe reported.
