It may not have been the Emmy Awards, but Sean Spicer got the chance to snap another celebrity selfie in Cambridge this week.
The former White House press secretary, who was recently tapped to serve as a visiting fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics, ran into quite the collection of notable names at the Ivy League university, including Woody Harrelson. The actor and former “Cheers” star was in town this week for a special screening of his new film “LBJ” at the Brattle Theatre.
In addition to Harrelson, Spicer also hung out with former DNC interim chairwoman Donna Brazile, New England native and filmmaker Bobby Farrelly, as well as Boston Bruins president Cam Neely, according to a photo posted on Spicer’s Instagram account.
“You never know who you’re going to run into at Harvard: Donna Brazile, Woody Harrelson, Bruins star Cam Neeley and Ocean State star Bobby Farrelly,” Spicer wrote in the captaion.
Between running into famous faces and cheering on his favorite sports teams, Spicer seems to be enjoying his stay in the Bay State so far. However, he probably wouldn’t have enjoyed the conversation about his old boss that took place during Harrelson’s event in Cambridge.
Following a screening of the Lyndon B. Johnson biopic, Harrelson, director Rob Reiner and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin discussed the impact of Donald Trump’s presidency and how it relates to “LBJ.” The filmmaker made a bold statement during the chat, telling the audience that the film feels timely because Trump has given a “voice to a virulent strain of racism that has been in this country forever.”
“Now we are where we are and it becomes a very relevant discussion again,” Reiner said. “This is like the last battle of the Civil War. It seems like we’re still fighting that battle of the Civil War.”
