Sens prez stepping down, Leeder promoted

Ottawa Senators president and chief executive officer Roy Mlakar will be leaving his post when his con-tract expires at the end of the month.

To replace Mlakar, Senators Sports and Entertainment owner Eugene Melnyk is promoting Cyril Leeder to president of the hockey club and of Senators Sports and Entertainment.

Erin Crowe will join Leeder on Melnyk’s executive leadership team — which will be responsible for the club’s operations and the assets — as executive vice-president and chief financial officer, while Bryan Murray, who joined the Senators in 2004 as the club’s fifth head coach, will continue as the Senators general manager while adding executive vice-president to his duties. These appointments take effect July 1.

“Roy Mlakar’s leadership over the past 13 years has been an impressive journey of achievement and success,” said Melnyk.

“Roy has worked in professional sports for nearly 40 years. That depth of experience and leadership … has contributed greatly to defining the Ottawa Senators.”
