Seven dead after long weekend accidents in B.C.

Seven people died in B.C. while taking part in outdoor activities or on the province’s roads this Victoria Day long weekend.

The body of a 46-year-old man was found in the Barriere River near Clearwater, RCMP said Monday. Adrien Joseph Lozeau was at a gathering with about 15 other people on Sunday when he went missing around 1 p.m. It took some time for people to notice Lozeau was gone. His body was located about one kilometre downstream from the campsite by helicopter. Investigators say alcohol is believed to be a factor.

On Sunday, two people in their 50s died and another was injured after a pickup truck rolled off the road in Merritt. Mounties say the three were ejected from the truck and likely would’ve survived if they were wearing seatbelts.

That same day, a six-year-old boy died after falling in the water and being swept away at Lynn Creek in North Vancouver.

On Saturday, a Chilliwack woman, 46, died after falling from the top of Rainbow Falls near Harrison Host Springs.

On Friday night, two people died near Port Alberni. A 53-year-old man is missing and is presumed drowned after he and his common-law wife fell out of their boat on Sproat Lake. At Nahmint Lake, a 23-year-old man died of his injuries after failing to negotiate a curve on his ATV.
