The flood danger has eased along major rivers in the Greater Toronto Area, but not before some tense moments yesterday in Toronto’s Don Valley and Georgetown.
An ice jam on the Don River caused extensive overnight flooding that forced the closing of the Bayview Extension between Bloor Street and Pottery Road Thursday. In Georgetown, a major ice jam on the Credit River at the Barber Mill dam caused minor flooding that threatened to worsen when more ice came hurtling downriver from another jam.
However, by late Thursday, the threat had passed and the water level was dropping, said John Kinkead, director of water resources for the Credit Valley Conservation Authority.
