Shake Shack is celebrating its 100th location in Boston’s Seaport District (77 Seaport) on Monday and will be giving away thousands of free burgers to celebrate. Every location (sans stadiums and ballparks) will give away 100 ShakeBurgers to the first 100 customers to walk through their doors at 10:30 a.m. local time on Aug. 16th.
But why the sudden kindness?
“We’re overwhelmed by the love and enthusiasm from our fans around the world, and this moment wouldn’t be possible without them,” says CEO Randy Garutti in a statement. “Here’s to bringing more Shacks to local communities around the world!”
The burger chain, which originated with Danny Meyer’s Madison Square Park hot dog cart in 2004 and has since become a behemoth in the fast casual industry, currently has standalone locations all over the world, including Dubai, Tokyo and Istanbul.
The Seaport location will celebrate its numero-100 status with a Boston-bred burger from the minds of Toro-Little Donkey-Copppa owners Jamie Bissonnette and Ken Oringer — following the footsteps of previous chef-made collaborations with Momofuko’s David Chang and the Spotted Pig’s April Bloomfield. The Coppa Burger will feature an Angus patty with griddled mortadella, cherry peppers, caramelized onions and provolone and will be available at all five Massachusetts locations starting Tuesday.
