Whenever the Cyclones arrive, 12 Wing Shearwater will be ready. The Maritime Helicopter Training Centre, a state-of-the-art training facility complete with flight simulators, was built for impending arrival of the Cyclones.
Training in preparation for the Cyclones was scheduled to start in 2010.
Three new aircraft hangars and support facilities were built.
A water reservoir, sanitary sewer and storm sewer lines were built to service hangars and to provide ire suppression.
“12 Wing will maintain its high pace of operations with the Sea King until the new Cyclone fleet has achieved Initial Operational Capability (IOC) status,” according to a Shearwater backgrounder. 12 Wing is described on the National Defence website “as the centre of naval aviation in Canada.
It supports the navy with up to nine helicopter air detachments for international and domestic operations.
