Simply solving your summer skin problems

If any season calls for perfect skin it would be summer, the time of hot days on the beach and water sports. But how many women can truly go all summer make-up free? Only a precious few. Smart makeup application ends up being the key to a fresh summer look.

THE SKIN

In summer, foundation application turns into a science. Makeup artist Talia Shobrook says a good primer is the secret to a winning summer makeup formula. The primer works so well because it creates a smooth surface for the foundation to lay on, which makes it lasts all day instead of melting off in the heat.

THE LIPS

What’s worse than your ice cream melting before you can finish it? Your lipgloss liquefying in the sun and dripping down your chin. Replace the thick lacquers with a demi-gloss or lip balm instead.

THE FOREHEAD

Nothing exacerbates acne like heat and heavy makeup. The trick to wearing makeup without aggravating your breakouts is to treat your blemishes before applying concealer. “Use a cotton bud to apply tea tree oil, so that the blemish is drying out under the makeup,” Shobrook advises.

THE NOSE

Rather than piling on the face powder to keep your face matte throughout the day. Keep a packet of blotting papers in your bag to keep your skin shine-free.

THE CHEEKS

Instead of applying powder foundation with a brush, which can leave a heavier, cake-like finish, Shobrook suggest using a sponge instead. It gives a more natural finish and allows you to control exactly where the makeup goes.
