Singing to thank fellow soldiers

The second annual Thank a Soldier mission is getting a little help from some friends this year.

Master Cpl. Elton Adams is a soldier and singer who wrote an entire album of songs while in Afghanistan and he will be performing at a free Thank a Soldier event next week, according to organizer Dave Murphy.

“His music is so real and different than anything I have heard. His performance will be streamed all over the world, including military bases,” Murphy said.

Murphy said he is both surprised and amazed at how Thank a Solider has caught on, including the demand for next week’s performance.

“In the past year alone, we have over three million members on the Facebook group. We’re getting 5,000 new members alone everyday.”

Murphy is happy with the showing of support spreading all over the world, especially because he has been working at the cause for a few years now before it really caught on.

“I think people have put politics aside and realize it’s about the soldiers and they are really putting their support out there.”

The free event takes place Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Kensington Legion. Donations for the legion will be accepted.
