The economy is still on the rocks, but ski house rentals this season are already booking up quickly, according to renters, home owners and brokers.
Some speculate that rentals up north are popular because people are opting out of pricier ski trips out west or vacations in sunny locales.
“Two years ago was our worst year. Then people discovered, ‘Why go on a big vacation and spend tens of thousands of dollars when you can go up north and do the same thing?’” says Jeff Benson, who has been renting his North Conway, New Hampshire, condo for the past 15 years. “This year it has been absolutely crazy.”
Benson, along with several homeowners and brokers in North Conway and Loon Mountain who spoke with us claim the most popular weekends are already booking up. Jim Collier, owner of Loon Reservation Service, which represents 90 condo and home owners, expects every listing will be occupied during Christmas and February vacations.
“We are absolutely expecting a better year than last year,” says Collier. “I think that people who came up for one day last year may come up and stay for a night or two this year.”
