Sled dogs are a big hit

The howling success of dog sledding at Mount Seymour means the ski resort will bring the dogs back next winter as a permanent attraction.
“They really want to run,” said Mike Cann, sales director at Mount Seymour. “They start lunging. They just really want to go.
“The dogs run and they bark and they howl. It’s a real blast.”
Mount Seymour hopes to run sled tours from December to May on trials west of the main parking lot, instead of its current location near the tobogganing area.
The dogs were introduced in January and were tentatively scheduled to run one weekend a month to give Vancouverites a “little taste of dogsledding,” Cann said.
The response, however, has been so positive that dog tours, operated by Whistler Dogsledding, have run every weekend since February and will continue after the ski hill closes in mid-April.
“It’s been extremely positive,” said Will Jackson of Whistler Dogsledding. “People don’t know exactly what they’re in for and — all of a sudden — it’s more than they expect.”
