Small but boisterous crowd shows support for O’Brien

As he exited the Ottawa courthouse, Mayor Larry O’Brien was met with a round of applause from more than a dozen supporters, who were greatly outnumbered by media waiting for his reaction to the charges against him being dismissed.

O’Brien kept it short, reading a prepared statement, thanking his legal team, but not taking any questions.

“I regret that we had to go through that, but quite frankly it was important for me to take this battle and have the truth come out so that I can look my two boys in the eyes and say their family name is still what it was before,” he said, “I am satisfied that judge Cunningham’s ruling provided us with clear insight into what actually happened and I am hoping that we can now put this bad ordeal behind us and move forward, because there are 141,000 people in the city of Ottawa who voted for me to get to work and that’s what I plan to do.”

This was greeted by another round of applause and a shout of “We love you Larry,” as he slogged way through a crush of photographers and cameras to a waiting car.
