Snow flying in Alberta a stark contrast to sunny, warm Ontario

EDMONTON – Flowers and shrubs were still wilting under wet snow in Alberta on Tuesday after a miserable long weekend that saw overnight temperatures dip to below freezing.

The thermometer in Edmonton as people headed back to work hovered around 0 C – just one degree warmer than the Arctic community of Iqaluit.

Environment Canada posted heavy snow warnings for central and northern Alberta and northern Saskatchewan, while Manitoba was experiencing below-seasonal temperatures.

But further east, Canadians were basking in the sun’s rays and temperatures in the 20s.

People in Toronto strolled in parks and ate their lunch at picnic tables.

But many playgrounds in Edmonton were empty and any kids brave enough to play outside were forced to wear their winter parkas.
